Hi, I’m shrilabh, the person behind ChinchillaNook.
ChinchillaNook is a research-first reference for chinchilla care. Most advice online repeats the same handful of unsourced claims, copied from site to site until nobody remembers where they came from, and some of it turns out to be wrong or needlessly alarmist once you check it against a real veterinary source. I started this site to do that checking: going back to veterinary manuals, published studies, and animal-hospital guidance, and telling you plainly what’s established, what’s assumed, and what nobody knows yet.
How an Article Gets Made
I’d rather be upfront about the process than leave you guessing.
- I start with a real question, usually one where the existing answers online are thin, contradictory, or unsourced.
- I use AI tools to help draft and organize. That’s the starting point, not the finish line.
- Every claim gets checked against a primary source, such as veterinary manuals, peer-reviewed studies, and university animal hospitals, rather than other blogs.
- I publish, then revisit. When new research changes the picture, or I find I got something wrong, the article gets updated rather than left as-is.
To be clear about who’s behind this: I follow the chinchilla-care space and its research closely, but I’m not a veterinarian, and I don’t currently keep chinchillas myself. That’s exactly why I lean on sources instead of personal anecdote, and why nothing here should replace advice from an exotic-animal vet who can actually examine your chinchilla.
